The Los Angeles Dodgers ace Trevor Bauer is set to be back in the MLB after a recent decision taken by the league.
Major League Baseball announced Thursday night that Trevor Bauer’s 324-game ban has been lowered to 194 games due to an appeal. He has already fulfilled his whole sentence. He will be reinstated with immediate effect.
In July 2021, Bauer was put on administrative leave by Major League Baseball after a California woman filed a civil suit accusing him of sexual abuse. While MLB investigated, he was placed on paid administrative leave. Bauer was accused of assaulting two Ohio women years later.
MLB may sanction a player who violates the joint Domestic Violence, Sexual Assault, and Child Abuse policy without criminal charges. In April, the league imposed a 324-game penalty. Bauer was the first player to challenge a domestic violence ban.
The appeal took eight months. The rules required the panel to include one league representative, one Players Association representative, and one independent arbitrator recognized by both sides. MLB’s penalty was severe, therefore the panel cut 130 games. He’ll be able to play next season due to his missing games.
In recent weeks, reports indicated the Dodgers were hesitant to spend aggressively this winter in part to keep flexibility under the CBT threshold in case Bauer’s ban was lowered. Without cutting salaries or paying the luxury tax for the third season, they’ll have little financial flexibility.
