New York Yankees star prospect Anthony Volpe got emotional after manager Aaron Boone announced his inclusion in Yankees team for 2023 season.
As the 2023 baseball season begins for the New York Yankees, top prospect Anthony Volpe will be on the team’s roster. Volpe appeared to have won the competition for the starting shortstop position with the Yankees, beating out Oswald Peraza and Isiah Kiner-Falefa in spring training. As a result of his promotion, Volpe now holds the job.
The 21-year-old Volpe played in 110 Double-A and 22 Triple-A games last year, and he had a batting line of.249/.342/.460 with 35 doubles, two triples, 21 home runs, and 50 stolen bases. Before the start of the 2017 baseball season, CBS Sports ranked Volpe as the 12th best prospect in all of baseball. The following is what R.J. Anderson saw on his reconnaissance:
This past season, Volpe had a sizzling bat swing. Before playing on Sunday, he had a batting average of.314 (16 for 51) with six doubles, one triple, three home runs, five RBI, 13 runs scored, and five stolen bases. It thought like Peraza’s future was set in stone because the Yankees were already using Kiner-Falefa as a utility backup, but Volpe’s performance this spring appears to have won the franchise over.
Despite the fact that there will not be a minor-league season in 2020, Volpe, who was selected by the Yankees in the first round of the 2019 draft straight out of high school, has made a smooth transition to the majors. In recent years, his name has been brought up in trade discussions on a few occasions. However, this has largely been the result of other teams inquiring about him while the Yankees refused to include him in any trade packages.

Anthony Volpe was a member of the Delbarton School baseball team while he was a student at the school, which is located in Morristown, New Jersey. He finished his high school career with a batting average of.488, seven home runs, 34 runs driven in (RBIs), and 17 stolen bases, earning him the title of New Jersey High School Player of the Year for 2019.
The New York Yankees selected Volpe in the first round of the 2019 Major League Baseball draft with the thirty-first overall pick. He signed on the 10th of June, was awarded a signing bonus of $2.7 million, and made his first appearance in a professional game with the Pulaski Yankees of the Rookie Advanced Appalachian League.
At the beginning of the 2022 season, the New York Yankees sent Volpe to the Somerset Patriots, who compete in the Eastern League at the Double-A level. In July, Volpe participated in the All-Star Futures Game as a representative of the American League. Volpe was sent up to the Scranton/Wilkes-Barre RailRiders of the Triple-A International League on September 2 after posting a batting average of.252 with 18 home runs and 60 runs batted in for Somerset over the course of 109 games.
Volpe was invited to participate in the Yankees’ spring training as a non-roster player in 2023. He contended with Oswald Peraza for the starting shortstop position during that season. As on present date, it was revealed that Volpe will start at shortstop for the Yankees on Opening Day because he had earned a position on the team’s Opening Day roster.
