All you need to know about the extent of injury of Cleveland Guardians promising pitcher Cal Quintrill.

The Cleveland Guardians have decided to put starting pitcher Cal Quantrill on the 15-day injured list due to inflammation in his shoulder. Aaron Civale has returned from the disabled list and will take over his previous role in the rotation. Additionally, Cleveland activated first baseman Josh Bell for paternity leave and recalled rookie infielder Brayan Rocchio from Triple-A Columbus. Bell is expecting his first child.

Quantrill will not be allowed to throw for the next few days as a result. It is not known how long he will be out of commission, but the fact that the government is currently closed is a strong indicator that it will be more than the bare minimum of two weeks. Despite the fact that the Guardians will undoubtedly be disheartened by the loss of one of their players, the injury may explain some uncharacteristic issues that the team has been having.

The right-handed pitcher has made 11 starts, and his earned run average (ERA) is 5.61. In each of the two previous seasons, Quantrill had an earned run average (ERA) that was either below or around 3.00. The velocity of his pitches has not changed at all this year, but he is striking out a career-low 7.2% of batters with them. The previous two starts that Quantrill has made have been extremely unsuccessful for him, as he has allowed a total of six and eight runs while not advancing past the fifth inning in each of those games.

The Guardians will be getting back two veteran arms in the coming days in order to fill the void left by Quantrill. Tonight is the beginning of Civale in Minnesota. Since April 7th, this is his first public appearance since then. Due to an oblique strain, he was sidelined for just under two months. In 20 starts during the 2017 season, Civale had an earned run average of 4.92.

When was Cal Quintrill drafted?

Cal Quintrill injury

Cal Quantrill, a talented right-handed pitcher, was drafted into Major League Baseball (MLB) in 2016. Born on February 10, 1995, in Port Hope, Ontario, Canada, Quantrill’s baseball journey began during his high school years at Trinity College School in Port Hope.

Quantrill’s impressive performances in high school earned him recognition and the attention of MLB scouts. However, he faced a setback in 2015 when he underwent Tommy John surgery, a standard procedure for pitchers to repair their elbow ligament. Despite the injury, Quantrill’s potential was evident, and he was still considered one of the top pitching prospects in the draft.

After completing his recovery and showcasing his skills, Quantrill’s talent and potential were highly regarded by MLB teams. In the 2016 MLB draft, he was selected as the eighth overall pick by the San Diego Padres. Before starting his professional career, Quantrill had an impressive college career at Stanford University. He followed in the footsteps of his father, Paul Quantrill, a former MLB pitcher, and excelled as a member of the Stanford Cardinal baseball team.

During his time at Stanford, Quantrill displayed his abilities as a skilled pitcher. In his freshman season in 2014, he quickly established himself as a key member of the Cardinal’s rotation. He finished the season with a 2.68 ERA and was named a Freshman All-American. In 2015, Quantrill’s sophomore season, he continued to impress. He had a 3.38 ERA and recorded 98 strikeouts in 110.2 innings pitched. Unfortunately, he suffered the aforementioned Tommy John injury that cut his season short.
