The Boston Red Sox have decided to place starting pitcher Chris Sale on the 15-day injured list due to inflammation in his throwing shoulder. Due to his diminishing velocity, Sale exited his start from the previous night in the fourth inning.
After the game, the Sox made the announcement that he would be heading for imaging. Sale mentioned that it will likely be close to a week before he gets an official diagnosis. Even though he doesn’t think he’ll need surgery, it seems unlikely that he’ll be able to return when he’s first eligible a couple of weeks from now. He said he doesn’t expect he’ll need surgery.
Over the course of the previous few years, Sale has sadly become accustomed to dealing with injuries. Since entering his 30s, he has struggled with a variety of health issues despite being one of the sport’s most durable arms between the years of 2012 and 2018. Due to Tommy John surgery, he was sidelined for all of 2020 and the majority of 21.
The 2022 campaign for Sale was beset by a variety of problems. Due to a stress reaction in his ribcage, he was unable to work for the first six months of the year. After making two starts since his return, he was hit by a comebacker, which resulted in the fracture of a finger on his throwing hand.
