All you need to know about what happened to Washington Nationals ace Stephen Strasburg ahead of the 2023 spring training.

Stephen Strasburg

Stephen Strasburg, who is 34 years old and a right-handed pitcher, experienced a setback during his return to the pitching mound, and there is currently no timetable for him to report to the Washington Nationals Spring Training. Strasburg had been recuperating from a stress reaction in his second and third ribs that is related to the thoracic outlet syndrome (TOS) surgery he underwent.

During the offseason, he worked his way up to throwing bullpens, and he reported having a positive experience after his first session. However, after he had thrown a second session not too long ago, he experienced a nerve issue that prevented him from continuing to throw. While the rest of the Nationals reported to West Palm Beach, Florida, Stephen Strasburg remained in Washington, where he was receiving additional medical attention and continuing his rehabilitation. It has not yet been decided whether or not he will join the team once the training camp begins.

This is the latest challenge for the player who was named Most Valuable Player of the 2019 World Series. Over the course of the last three seasons, he has been able to play for only 31 and one-third innings total. In the year 2020, Strasburg underwent surgery to treat carpal tunnel syndrome in his right hand, which forced him to miss the rest of the season. Before undergoing thoracic outlet surgery in July of that year, he appeared in all five of his team’s games during the ’21 season.

After a layoff of more than a year between appearances, Strasburg made his pitching comeback in June of last year, but he was forced to leave the game due to complications with his TOS. During this offseason, he had planned to continue his rehabilitation sessions six days a week.
