What happened to Trayce Thompson? Update on Dodgers OF’s health

Published by

All you need to know about what happened to Trayce Thompson and how long the Los Angeles Dodgers OF will be out for.

Outfielder Trayce Thompson of the Los Angeles Dodgers has been put on the 10-day injured list after sustaining an injury. In the game against the New York Yankees from the night before, he received an injury to his oblique muscle as a result of a checked swing.

In what has already been a challenging season for Thompson, who has a hitting line of only.155/.310/.366 over 87 plate appearances, this is just another setback for him. The outfielder smacked three home runs in his first game of the season and had three hits against the Rays on May 28. However, Thompson has only five hits during his remaining 79 plate appearances, including a horrible 0-for-36 slump that was only recently broken with that big night against Tampa Bay.

As a natural consequence of his troubles, Thompson’s playing time has been cut back, despite the fact that the Dodgers have been looking for additional outfield assistance ever since Mookie Betts began spending more time at the middle infield position.

Even if a decline was to be expected considering how much Thompson’s 2022 numbers exceeded the rest of his career, the fact that he was unable to continue his seeming breakout is nevertheless a source of disappointment. After being acquired by the Dodgers in a cash deal from the Tigers in June of 2022, Thompson became an unexpected contributor for the Dodgers, hitting.268/.364/.537 in 239 plate appearances for the team during the previous season.

Yes, they both are related. Trayce Thompson and Klay Thompson are the sons of former NBA player Mychal Thompson and the younger brothers of former NBA champion and All-Star, Klay Thompson.
