The Boston Red Sox play their home games at Fenway Park, which is a baseball stadium in the city of Boston. The Red Sox competes in the American League (AL). It is both the most recognizable and the oldest of the ballparks in the Major League Baseball, having first opened its doors in 1912.

The owner of the Red Sox, John I. Taylor, began searching for potential sites for a new ballpark in 1911. By the end of that year, John I. Taylor’s father purchased more than 365,000 square feet (33,900 square metres) of land in the Fenway-Kenmore area of Boston.

In September, construction began on a stadium that Taylor named Fenway Park. Although he said that the name was inspired by the location, several people felt that it promoted the business that his family owns, which is called Fenway Realty. James McLaughlin was primarily responsible for the park’s design, and it came in at a cost of approximately $650,000.

On April 9, 1912, the first baseball game ever played at the stadium was an exhibition match between the Red Sox and Harvard College. The Red Sox came out on top and won the game. On April 20, the site hosted its first ever professional game, which resulted in a win for the Red Sox over the New York Highlanders by a score of 7–6. (later Yankees).
