The owner of the Red Sox, John I. Taylor, began searching for potential sites for a new ballpark in 1911. By the end of that year, John I. Taylor’s father purchased more than 365,000 square feet (33,900 square metres) of land in the Fenway-Kenmore area of Boston.

In September, construction began on a stadium that Taylor named Fenway Park.
