All you need to know about when did Fernando Tatis Jr. actually joined the San Diego Padres, and how his career has gone so far.
During the 2015 Major League Baseball (MLB) draft, the Chicago White Sox selected Fernando Tatis Jr. to join their organisation. He was chosen 16th overall in the first round of the draught. Tatis Jr. was eventually sent to the San Diego Padres in a trade that took place in 2016, and he made his debut in the Major League Baseball with them in 2019.
On June 4, 2016, the White Sox made a deal with the Padres to acquire pitcher James Shields in exchange for Tatis Jr. and Erik Johnson, who both played for the White Sox. Tatis Jr. had just turned 17 years old and was competing in one of the lowest divisions of the minor leagues when the transaction took place.
The move was seen as a bit of a gamble for the Padres because Tatis Jr. had not yet made his debut in Major League Baseball (MLB), which was still many years away. Tatis Jr. has now developed into one of the most talented players in the league, which is evidence that San Diego made the right decision by acquiring him.
On March 28, 2019, Tatis Jr. played his first game in Major League Baseball for the San Diego Padres. He had a productive first year at the plate, hitting.317 with 22 home runs, 16 stolen bases, and 53 runs batted in throughout the course of 84 games played.
Tatis Jr. continued to show promise in his second season, 2020 and finished in fourth place in the poll for National League Most Valuable Player. In 59 games, he played, he had a batting average of.277, with 17 home runs, 11 stolen bases, and 45 RBIs.
Tatis Jr. had a breakout season in 2021, despite the fact that he was sidelined for part of the year due to injury. In 130 games, he played, he had a batting average of.282, with 42 home runs, 97 RBIs, and 25 stolen bases. The first time he participated in the All-Star Game, he also garnered third place in the poll for National League Most Valuable Player.
Injuries forced Fernando Tatis Jr. to miss the majority of the 2022 season, and he was subsequently suspended for violating MLB’s PED rules; nevertheless, he is expected to make his comeback very soon.
When will Fernando Tatis Jr. make his return in the MLB?
If the timetable holds, Fernando Tatis Jr. would be able to return to the lineup on April 20, the first game of a four-game series in Arizona (albeit that date is subject to change with any rainouts or other postponements).

Since it was agreed that Fernando Tatis Jr.’s suspension would be reduced by one game for each playoff game the Padres played, the team can start planning for his possible return to the lineup. The date was set when it was decided that he would receive credit for one game served for each postseason game the Padres played.
After testing positive for a banned drug in August, Tatis was suspended for a whopping 80 games. Tatis’s left wrist fracture kept him out of action for the first four months of the 2022 campaign. The suspension he received ensured that Tatis would sit out the rest of the season.
