All you need to know about the next year in which the next WBC will be played after immense success in this year’s edition.
What a tournament it’s been, the 2023 World Baseball Championship is coming to an end, and it’s been a good one. The fifth iteration of the World Baseball Classic marked the first time that the number of teams competing was increased to 20, and games were played in Arizona, Miami, Tokyo, and Taichung, Taiwan.
It has been a very long time since the last time there was an international baseball competition. With the conclusion of the WBC in 2017, the competition was planned to take place again four years later, as it had done for the previous two tournaments. Nevertheless, the World Boxing Championship that was scheduled to take place in 2021 has been moved to 2023.
The World Baseball Classic will make its return to MLB in 2026 as part of the collective bargaining agreement that was reached before the 2022 season. After the first and second World Boxing Championships were held in 2006 and 2009, respectively, this will be the first time that there would be a gap of three years between WBCs.
The locations of the host cities for the World Baseball Classic in 2026 have not been disclosed as of yet. Since the locations of the competition for this year weren’t announced until July 2022, it’s possible that it will be some time before this information is made public.
