Kodai Senga is a Japanese citizen who plays baseball in MLB for the New York Mets. On March 15, 1993, he was born in the city of Fukuoka, which is situated on the southern island of Kyushu.
When Senga was in primary school, he first picked up a baseball bat and instantly developed a passion for the sport. He attended Chikuyo Gakuen High School in Fukuoka, where he was a standout player on the baseball team. In the first round of the Nippon Professional Baseball (NPB) draft in 2011, he was chosen by the SoftBank Hawks to play for their team.
Senga began his professional career by playing in the minor leagues, where he spent the first few years of his career working on developing his talents and acclimating himself to the professional game. As a relief pitcher for the SoftBank Hawks in 2015, the year he made his professional debut, he participated in a total of 16 games.
The following year, Senga was given a starting role as a pitcher for the Hawks, and he wasted little time in proving himself to be one of the most formidable competitors in the league. He concluded the season with a record of 15-5 and an ERA of 2.39, earning him the Pacific League Rookie of the Year award.

Kodai Senga signed a five-year contract with the New York Mets in 2022 that was worth a total of $75,000,000 and included a signing bonus of $5,000,000, a guarantee of $75,000,000, and an annual average salary of $15,000,000. In the year 2023, Senga will bring in a total pay of $15,000,000, comprised of a base salary of $14,000,000, a signing bonus of $5,000,000, and a total salary of $15,000,000.
Before that, in 2018, he had a record of 13-8 with an ERA of 2.79 and was named to the Pacific League All-Star squad. Prior to that, he was named to the National League All-Star team. Because of his outstanding performance in 2019, during which he posted a record of 11-6 and an earned run average of 2.79, he was selected to play for the Japan national baseball team in the Premier12 competition.
Senga’s fastball, slider, and splitter are the three pitches that have made him famous. His fastball can reach speeds of up to 100 miles per hour. In addition to this, he is well-known for his fiercely competitive nature and his ability to pitch effectively in important games.
Senga has not only been successful in the NPB, but he has also competed for Japan in international competitions. He pitched for Japan in the 2020 Olympics in Tokyo, where the country won the bronze medal thanks in large part to his contributions as a member of the Japanese team that won the gold medal at the Premier12 tournament in 2015. He was also a member of the Japanese squad that won the 2015 Premier 12 tournament.
Kodai Senga was an important player for the SoftBank Hawks and was considered to be one of the best pitchers in the Nippon Professional Baseball League. Because of his outstanding performance on the pitch, he was widely regarded as one of the best players in the league and is a fan favorite among the Japanese public.
After making his first appearance in Major League Baseball, he currently has a record of 4-1 with an earned run average of 3.38 and 36 strikeouts in 6 games played so far this season.
