All you need to know about which team has signed Gary Sanchez who was recently released by the New York Mets.
A source from the San Diego Padres organization verified that the club picked up catcher Gary Sánchez off of waivers on Monday. Since April 1st, Sánchez has joined a total of three different organizations. On May 25, the New York Mets placed Sanchez on the designated for assignment list. Sanchez, who was only three games into his rookie season with the Mets, only had one run batted in and had not yet hit a home run.
Gary Sanchez, who is now 30 years old, appeared in a grand total of just three games with the Mets when he was with the organization. His batting average was 0.00, he drove in one run, but he didn’t have any hits that went for extra bases. Soon after being let go by the San Francisco Giants earlier in the month of May, he signed with the organization and became a member of it. It is not known whether he will look for another job in the major leagues or whether he will accept a position in the minor leagues. It is also unknown whether he will take a job in both major and minor leagues.
The Padres intend to option either Nola or Sullivan to Triple A, and a decision regarding which player will go there will most likely be made on Tuesday. This would provide room on the roster for Sanchez, who is set to report to the team in time for the first game of the series at LoanDepot Park on Tuesday night. It’s possible that the Padres won’t rush to put Sanchez in the catcher’s role right away, but they do want to get this experiment underway as soon as possible. The rookie should get at least one start during the series against the Marlins.
Sánchez comes with a long-established reputation as a bat-first catcher and as an iffy defender, and he will need to learn a new pitching staff on the fly. This presents a challenge for him because he will have to master it quickly. However, if he provides offense that is even somewhat greater than that of Nola and Sullivan, he will boost his chances of being kept on the team. In that case, he might become a free agency once more in the near future, and the Padres will be forced to continue searching for solutions to the most conspicuous hole in their positional roster.Sánchez has a career total of 2,357 at-bats, and he has a slash line of.225/.311/.466 and 154 home runs while driving in 402 runs.
