All you need to know about which team will Carlos Guzman be playing in the upcoming 2023 MLB season.
It was likely that Scott Harris would be making moves as teams around the league completed their rosters before the start of the regular season on Thursday. There were three open days before the start of the regular season. Zack McKinstry, a seasoned utility player, was traded to the Tigers by the Chicago Cubs in exchange for right-handed minor league pitcher Carlos Guzman. This transaction took place recently.
McKinstry, who was 27 years old at the time, had exhausted all of his options and was not going to be included on the Cubs’ roster, thus it was not difficult to acquire him. Guzman switched positions from shortstop to pitcher when he was 19 years old. However, he has not advanced beyond High-A ball despite having recorded four outs in relief for Double-A Erie the year before. Guzman is currently 24 years old.
It would appear like McKinstry and Ryan Kreidler will open the season together for the Tigers as the team’s two backup infielders. On Monday, they sent Cesar Hernández back to the minor league camp along with Akil Baddoo and Zack Short, who were both given the option to play for Triple-A Toledo. Unless there are any trades that take place, this most likely indicates that Kerry Carpenter will begin the season serving as the fourth outfielder for the Tigers.
The competition between Carpenter and Baddoo this spring was quite close, but there is no question that the Tigers appreciate having that power bat in a lineup that is in need of assistance in that respect. Yet, there is a chance that this will be a revolving door if Carpenter is unable to generate enough damage to compensate for his poor defensive profile and high strikeout totals.
