All you need to know about where will pitcher Will Smith be playing in the upcoming 2023 MLB season.
The Texas Rangers have announced that veteran left-handed pitcher Will Smith has agreed to terms on a Major League deal for the upcoming season. Mark Mathias, an infielder, has been designated for assignment so that there will be room on the team’s roster for Smith.
Smith is now playing for the Texas Rangers, the state’s other major league baseball franchise, after finishing the 2022 season with the Houston Astros, who went on to win the World Series. After a shaky beginning to the season, the Braves made a move at the trade deadline that seemed to turn things around for the experienced player, as they sent Smith to the Astros.
Smith pitched 22 innings with the Astros and recorded an earned run average of 3.27. He also substantially reduced the number of walks and home runs that plagued him earlier in the year while he was with the Braves.
Smith won his second championship ring in a row despite the fact that he did not pitch for the Astros in the postseason. In 2021, Smith was a member of the Braves team that won the World Series, so he already possessed one of these rings. The veteran left-handed pitcher will now be joining a Rangers team that hasn’t had a winning season since 2016, despite making significant investments to improve the roster in each of the past two offseasons. Smith is obviously familiar with his new skipper, Bruce Bochy, as he played for the Giants from 2016 through 2019 while Bochy was the manager there. The hiring of Bochy as manager this offseason was part of an effort to further strengthen the organisation.
