All you need to know about which team will Yuli Gurriel be playing in the upcoming 2023 MLB season.
According to a report by Ken Rosenthal of The Athletic, the Marlins and first baseman Yuli Gurriel have reached an agreement on a contract. According to a tweet by Mark Feinsand of MLB.com, the agreement does not involve a roster spot. At this stage, the details of the transaction’s financial impact remain unknown.
Since the beginning of the season, Gurriel and the Marlins have been dancing together. They were not linked to one another in the public eye for the first time until January, and other stories have connected the two sides after that time.
It was claimed about a month ago that the Marlins had offered Gurriel a deal worth approximately $2 million, but they pulled the offer after about a week had passed without a reaction from Gurriel. As recently as a couple of days ago, it was claimed that negotiations between the two teams were still ongoing, but that Gurriel could have to settle for a deal in the minor leagues.
Gurriel, who has spent the seven seasons before to this one with the Astros, will be playing for a different Major League Baseball team now. He was a reliable offensive contributor for the earlier portion of that time, but in the most recent few seasons, he has displayed a good amount of inconsistency. His batting line from 2017 to 2019 was.296/.333/.486 with a wRC+ of 119. But, his batting line in 2022 was.242/.288/.360 with a wRC+ of 85, indicating another drop in his production.
