All you need to know about who will be replacing Los Angeles Dodgers ace Clayton Kershaw on the WBC Roster.
On Sunday, Major League Baseball made the announcement that pitcher Nick Martinez of the San Diego Padres will be replacing Clayton Kershaw of the Los Angeles Dodgers on the 30-man roster for the United States team that will compete in the World Baseball Classic.
Martinez appeared in 47 games for San Diego last year, making 10 starts and accumulating eight saves. He finished the year with a record of 4-4 and a 3.47 earned run average. In November, he put the finishing touches on a deal with the Padres that was worth $26 million over three years.
On Friday, Kershaw revealed that he will not be able to take part in the World Boxing Championship. The recipient of three Cy Young Awards did not elaborate on the circumstances that would preclude him from taking part in the activity.
The ace pitcher for the Dodgers will now concentrate on the next Major League Baseball season, during which his team will need him to perform at the highest possible level. As a result of the San Diego Padres’ readiness to make a run towards the World Series, the Los Angeles Dodgers are no longer the top club in their own division beyond a shadow of a doubt.
