All you need to know why young pitching sensation Nick Lodolo is not playing for the Cincinnati Reds.
Nick Lodolo, the starting pitcher for the Cincinnati Reds, has been sidelined since the 6th of May due to an issue with his left leg. The injury was first reported as calf tendinitis; however, it was then changed to a tibia stress reaction, which is a more severe injury.
The majority of the past month has been spent with Lodolo confined to a walking boot. After he is taken out of the walking boot, it is estimated that it will take him between four and six weeks before he is ready to participate in game action again. Because of the lengthy layoff, he will need to engage in a throwing program in order to regain his arm strength. According to this timeline, the earliest possible return to Great American Ball Park would be in the beginning of August.
Should there be any other setbacks or should his throwing program take longer than anticipated, he may be sidelined for the better part of the month and he is already on the 60-day IL list. Although he is eligible to return around the time of the All-Star Break, it is obvious that he won’t be ready by then. The pitcher in his second year has struggled mightily to find success this year.
Over the course of 34 and third innings, he has made seven starts and has a career ERA of 6.29. The former seventh overall pick had also been placed on the injured list for a couple of months during the previous season, which was caused by a lower back strain. However, he had impressed with a 3.66 earned run average over 103 and one-third innings as a rookie.
Nick Lodolo was drafted into Major League Baseball (MLB) in 2019. He was selected by the Cincinnati Reds with the seventh overall pick in the first round of the MLB Draft. This marked a significant milestone in his baseball journey and paved the way for his transition to professional baseball.
Before his professional career, Lodolo showcased his talents at both the college and high school levels. He attended Damien High School in La Verne, California, where he established himself as a standout pitcher. Lodolo’s impressive performances earned him recognition as one of the top high school pitchers in the country.
Following his high school success, Lodolo committed to play college baseball at Texas Christian University (TCU). During his three-year collegiate career with the TCU Horned Frogs, Lodolo continued to refine his skills and make significant strides in his development as a pitcher.
Lodolo’s college career was marked by consistent excellence on the mound. He displayed exceptional control, a strong pitching repertoire, and an ability to generate strikeouts. In his sophomore season, Lodolo was named to the All-Big 12 Second Team, further solidifying his status as one of the top pitchers in college baseball.
In his junior year, Lodolo took his game to another level. He became the ace of the TCU pitching staff and played a pivotal role in the team’s success. Lodolo’s impressive performances garnered him widespread attention from scouts and elevated his draft stock leading up to the MLB Draft. In 2019, the Cincinnati Reds recognized Lodolo’s talent and selected him in the first round of the draft.
The Reds were impressed by his size, athleticism, and polished pitching mechanics. Lodolo’s ability to throw strikes consistently and mix his pitches effectively made him an appealing prospect for the organization. After being drafted, Lodolo embarked on his professional career in the Reds’ minor league system. He quickly progressed through the ranks, showcasing his skills and earning accolades along the way.
