Will Kyle Wright play in the season opener for the Braves?

Published by

All you need to know about the availability status of Kyle Wright for the Atlanta Braves, as season opener is less than a month away.

The Atlanta Braves have good reason to believe that right-handed pitcher Kyle Wright, who was the only player in the majors last year to win 20 games, may still be able to be ready for Opening Day. Even if Wright needs more time to be ready for the season, it seems like the Braves have enough depth to complete out their rotation even without Wright.

After receiving a cortisone injection in January to treat a problem with his right shoulder, Wright, who is now 27 years old, has not yet participated in any of the spring games. He has reported that his shoulder is feeling OK, but the Braves are going to keep a tight eye on his development after he threw a bullpen session on Tuesday, and he is getting ready to throw live batting practice on Friday. In the event that there are no unexpected complications, Wright may be able to participate in three of the spring games, including one the following week.

During his breakthrough season in 2022, Wright had a 21-5 record with a 3.19 earned run average to finish first in the majors in wins. In the National League Division Series defeat to the Philadelphia Phillies, the right-handed pitcher tossed an additional six innings in which his team did not allow any runs to score. It is anticipated that Wright will be included in the rotation with Charlie Morton, Max Fried, and Spencer Strider as the first four starters.

Anderson, Elder, and Kolby Allard are now being joined in the race for the No. 5 position in the rotation by the fact that Mike Soroka’s recovery from his second Achilles tendon tear has been hampered by a hamstring ailment. Soroka tore his Achilles tendon twice. Should the Braves decide to give Wright additional time to build up his pitch count, it is possible that two of the three may start the season in the rotation.

Kyle Wright and Braves early favorites to win World Series

The World Series is often regarded as one of the most difficult championships in all of sports to win. It is not always the case that the greatest team wins the tournament and gets to hoist the Commissioner’s Trophy at the conclusion; rather, it is a matter of figuring out how to get into the dance and becoming hot at the appropriate moment. The clubs that the Braves will field in 2021 and 2022 are excellent examples.
