Polish fighter Joanna Jedrzejczyk put on a great show at UFC 248 but had a nasty forehead injury that got everyone talking.
The 32-year-old was up against Zhang Weili in the Women’s Strawweight title bout and the injury took place.
It was a shot from Zhang right on Joanna’s forehead that led to massive swelling. The MMA fighter looked like a completely different person before and after the injury, and it was incredible that she lasted the five rounds.
Many UFC stars praised Joanna’s toughness, so did Joe Rogan on his podcast later on, however, we got to see the negative side of social media in play too.
Several Twitter accounts posted some rather tasteless memes on social media. The joke was the size of Joanna’s forehead and here are a few that were on the verge of being horrible
Memes are all fun and games, but mocking someone who could have picked up a serious injury certainly wasn’t expected, especially after the incredible bout she had against Zhang.
Valerie Loureda, a fighter in Bellator, was one of the first to lash out at the fans and memes on social media.
She wasn’t the only one to come out in support of Jedrzejczyk, and the fighters were right in their reactions to some of the disgusting memes shared online.
Jedrzejczyk also shared updates on social media that she was doing fine but the injury was as brutal as they come in the UFC.
The Pole didn’t just have one major injury to deal with as her face had bruises and bumps all around.
She was struck several times on the chest, shoulders and arms and looked like she had actually come out from a war.
It was actually nothing less than a battle as Zhang also carried a lot of marks from the fight.
Joanna recently posted a video on her recovery and she was covered in bruises all around. She did mention that she was doing some home-made remedies to fix her problems but was feeling great.
The Pole proved she was hard as nails though. She was taken to a hospital after UFC 248 and after a few checks, she was able to leave the facility without any issues.
The fight between Joanna and Zhang will go down as one of the greatest in MMA history. It could be one of the best title fights too, and the pair are open to facing each other again.
Joanna was attempting to become the first woman to reclaim a title. She failed to do that but there really weren’t any losers from this fight.
Zhang might have kept the belt but the respect between the two has grown leaps and bounds. Jedrzejczyk might be the toughest woman on the planet, and hopefully, she comes back to the UFC soon.
