Justin Thornton has passed away after suffering injuries from his last BKFC bout
BKFC fighter Justin Thornton has passed away because of the serious injuries suffered by him during his last bout in August. BKFC announced the passing away of the fighter on Twitter and also gave condolences to his family.
The president of BKFC said:
“We are very sad to learn off the passing of one of our fighters, Justin Thornton who competed at BKFC 20 on August 20, 2021, We join the rest of the combat sports community in sending our deepest condolences to his family and loved ones. We have spoken to his family, given them our condolences and let them know they have our full support through this trying time”
It is a truly disheartening news and it just makes us realize how cruel the world of combat sports really is.
What injuries did Justin Thornton suffer?
Thornton was knocked out unconscious just 19 seconds into his bout against Dillion Clecker. After his match he was hospitalized for several weeks. He reportedly suffered an injury on his spinal cord and later it was infected as well.
Christopher Duett shared the video of his KO on his Twitter showing how viscously Thornton was knocked out.
Thorton also seemed to have landed face first on the canvas before being left unconscious. What is even more saddening is the fact that this was his debut match in the BKFC. Not only did Thornton lose the battle against his opponent, he also lost the battle of life.
The passing of Thornton will most likely create a outrage as bare knuckle fighting is like adding more danger to the already dangerous world of combat sports.
