“Hold ya head sis”, “MMA is a different beast” – Twitter reacts to Claressa Shields’ first loss in her professional fighting career

Women’s boxing great and mixed martial artist Claressa Shields suffered the first loss of her professional fighting career on the 27th of October, 2021

Claressa Shields tasted defeat for the first time in her combat sports career, as she went down fighting to Abigail Montes of Mexico at PFL 10.

Although Shields was efficient with her striking, Montes’ ground game proved to be a bit too good – earning her a narrow split-decision victory.

This was Shields’ second fight as a mixed martial artist. She previously took on Brittney Elkin at PFL 4 and earned a third-round TKO win.

Having never tasted victory in boxing and MMA, this was a hard pill for the ‘GWOAT’ to swallow.

Twitterati were quick to react to Shields’ loss. While a few wished her to bounce back stronger, some took a dig at her for suggesting that she would challenge the likes of Amanda Nunes.

Here are a few Twitter reactions, starting off with former American champion Andre Ward:
