Georges St-Pierre reveals offer to fight Floyd Mayweather Jr. for a boxing match
Floyd Mayweather Jr. has been challenging the biggest name in boxing to a short sparring match while wearing huge gloves. Mayweather’s style is usually lighthearted, but he can get serious when his opponent does. His latest target is none other than former UFC two-division champion Georges St-Pierre.
Mayweather seems to be on the lookout for a new opponent and has his sights set on a UFC great. Although Jose Aldo has lately come forth as having discussions with Mayweather, he is not alone. Watch former two-weight champion Georges St. Pierre discuss his meetings with Floyd Mayweather Jr.’s team with TSN’s Aaron Bronsteter above. St. Pierre is game for it, so long as certain requirements are met.
GSP stated:
“The biggest name in boxing came up to me, to fight me in boxing. I told him, ‘For me it’s a question of honor, it’s not of money. You cannot buy me.’”
“They asked me to box the biggest boxer of our time. I said to them, ‘It’s either you let me use my legs or the takedown!’ … I’m like well it’s one or the other, I’m not going to fight the best boxer for money. For me, if they want to fight me, they have to accept my terms. There needs to be a fair compromise, 50-50 compromise.”
St. Pierre was also presented with several alternative possibilities, such as boxing while wearing MMA gloves or alternating MMA and boxing rounds. “GSP” claims that he would be interested in the former but not the latter.
During a question and answer session for UFC 287, St-Pierre named Carlos Condit as the most powerful puncher he’s ever faced in the sport.
“The person that hit me the hardest was Carlos Condit. At one point in my fight with him, I was standing up, saw him coming in, going to the left…and I followed him. Then, something happened where I was out, and I end up on my butt. And I was like ‘Shit, I missed a split second or something’. So that means he hits pretty hard. When you don’t feel it, that means you got hit pretty hard.”
At UFC 154, St-Pierre won a unanimous decision over Condit. Condit’s early career brilliance faded after his loss against St. Pierre.
