Here is how the MMA community reacted to the death of legendary NFL coach John Madden

NFL coach John Madden passed away on the 28th of December, 2021. He was 85.

Born on the 10th of April, 1936 in Austin, Minnesota, Madden took up coaching when he was just 24 years of age. Starting out as an assistant coach for Allan Hancock College in 1960, Madden became the head coach of the Oakland Raiders by the end of the decade.

Madden led the Raiders to a Super Bowl victory in 1977.

After a successful coaching stint, Madden started out as a sportscaster, joining CBS as a colour commentator in 1979. He worked with CBS for nearly 15 years, before moving to Fox, ABC Sports and NBC Sports (in that order).

The iconic MADDEN NFL video game series developed by EA Sports is named after Madden.

Following his death, NFL’s official Twitter handle mourned his loss. Their Tweet read:

“The NFL is saddened to share the passing of the legendary John Madden. He was 85.”
