Gegard Mousasi has almost fought 60 fights in his career but still doesn’t want Yoel Romero coming up against him.
Gegard Mousasi, the current Bellator Middleweight champion hopes that his countryman, Melvin Manhoef beats Yoel Romero so that he doesn’t have to face the Cuban. Yoel Romero has jumped into the light-heavyweight division and will be facing Melvin Manhoef at Bellator.
On the probabilities of fighting Yoel Romero, Mousasi said:
“No one likes to fight Yoel Romero. Why would I want to fight him? No. I hope Melvin wins so that I don’t have to fight him (Laughs)”
The champ further added:
“He is coming off four losses or something like that. But still, a very dangerous opponent and so fighting him is not gonna do anything for me. But if they make the fight, I take it. Karate is on my side so I beat him.” [via Bloody Elbow]
Gegard Mousasi’s prediction on Yoel Romero’s future in Bellator as light-heavyweight
Gegard Mousasi had a say on Yoel Romero’s future in Bellator. Here is what he had to say:
“He is getting older also, but light heavyweight is not his division. There are a lot of things he can do at middleweight that he is gonna have trouble doing at light heavyweight. And light heavyweight in Bellator now is much better than in UFC. They have more tough competition.“
Romero’s last victory came in an interim title clash in February 2018. The loss was followed by two more losses before he departed UFC and joined Bellator. His debut didn’t go well either as he lost the fight by split decision against Phil Davis in September 2021. Romero will be looking forward to rebuilding his reputation and getting his winning form back. On the whole, his upcoming fight will be a mouth watering one.
Mousasi will be back in action on Feb 25th where he will look to defend his title against the undefeated 11-0 Austin Vanderford at Bellator 275.
