WWE’s seventh pay-per-view of the year – Money in the Bank will take place on Saturday, July 2, 2022. The event will be held at the MGM Grand Garden Arena.
Here is the match card for the event (as of 19 June 2022):
Bianca Belair (c) versus Carmella – RAW Women’s Championship match
Rhea Ripley managed to win a fatal-4-way match on RAW to become the no. 1 contender for Bianca Belair’s RAW Women’s Championship. She was all set to face the EST of WWE at Money in the Bank. However, on the 20th June episode of RAW, Belair announced that Ripley was not cleared to compete at Money in the Bank. WWE or Belair did not reveal the kind of injury that the Nightmare suffered but as per the former RAW Women’s Champion’s reply to a fan on Instagram, she might be dealing with an injury to her teeth.
Belair announced that a Fatal 5-way match would be contested to determine the new no. 1 contender for her RAW Women’s Championship. The wrestlers who took part in that match were Asuka, Becky Lynch, Liv Morgan, Alexa Bliss, and Carmella. In the end, it was the former SmackDown Women’s Champion Carmella, who got the all-important victory.
Carmella will now face Belair at the upcoming Money in the Bank pay-per-view in an attempt to win her second world title in WWE.
Ronda Rousey (c) versus Natalya – SmackDown Women’s Championship match
The veteran Natalya got her chance to challenge Ronda Rousey at Money in the Bank thanks to a win in a six-pack challenge match that contained the likes of Raquel Gonzalez, Shotzi, Shayna Baszler, Xia Li, and Aliyah. The six-pack challenge match took place on SmackDown. Natalya went on to ambush the former MMA star the following week after the latter’s grueling match against Shotzi.
This promises to be a good match with two stalwarts battling it out for the biggest prize in the women’s division on SmackDown.
Seth Rollins, Drew McIntyre, Omos, and Sheamus, Sami Zayn – Men’s Money in the Bank Ladder match
Only three men have managed to qualify so far in the men’s Money in the Bank Ladder match. Seth Rollins defeated AJ Styles on RAW to book his ticket to the big event. Sheamus and Drew McIntyre got themselves disqualified during their qualification match. This was after both men used steel chairs to assault each other.
Adam Pearce revealed a week later that both men have been included in the match. We will get more participants in the weeks to come.
The Nigerian Giant Omos qualified on the June 20 episode of RAW after defeating Riddle. After facing Roman Reigns for the WWE Universal Championship the previous week on SmackDown, this loss is certainly a huge setback for Riddle. Maybe WWE has some better plans for him in place.
Sami Zayn took his spot in the Money in the Bank ladder match after beating Shinsuke Nakamura on the June 24 episode of SmackDown.
Lacey Evans, Liv Morgan, Raquel Rodriguez, Asuka, and Alexa Bliss, Shotzi – Women’s Money in the Bank Ladder match
Lacey Evans defeated Xia Li while Raquel Rodriguez got the better of Shayna Baszler to qualify from the SmackDown side till now.
Alexa Bliss and Liv Morgan teamed up to face the team of last year’s winner Nikki A.S.H. and Doudrop in a tag team match on RAW. This was a qualifying match for the Women’s Money in the Bank Ladder match. Bliss and Morgan defeated the heels and put their names on the card for the Money in the Bank pay-per-view.
Asuka qualified for this match after defeating Becky Lynch on the June 20 episode of RAW.
Shotzi managed to qualify for the match for the first time in her career after defeating the veteran Tamina on the June 24 episode of SmackDown. She was supposed to fight Aliyah in the qualifying match. However, WWE announced on the show that the latter had received an injury. Therefore, it was Tamina who took the place of Aliyah but she suffered a loss at the hands of Shotzi.
Bobby Lashley versus Theory (c) – United States Championship
Bobby Lashley had to win a Gauntlet match on the June 20 episode of RAW to get a chance to face Theory for the United States Championship.
Lashley defeated Chad Gable, Otis, and Theory to book his ticket to Money in the Bank. The Almighty is a former two-time United States Champion. He would be looking forward to beginning his third reign as the United States Champion.
