Monte Carlo Masters 2022: Casper Ruud will lock horns with Grigor Dimitrov in the Round of 16 at the Monte Carlo Country Club in Roquebrune-Cap-Martin on Thursday, April 14.

Monte Carlo Masters 2022: Casper Ruud vs Grigor Dimitrov Preview

Grigor Dimitrov had a sensational comeback performance in the second round against Dusan Lajovic, beating the Serb in 3 sets 4-6/6-3/6-2. Although Dimitrov, who is ranked No.29 in the world, was down a break in the second set and the match seemed to be done and dusted as Lajovic was toying with the Bulgarian. But Dimitrov soon found some rhythm on his backhand which then allowed him to move Lajovic into tough spots and eventually grind out a rather comfortable win.

Meanwhile, Casper Ruud had a tough fight against Danish youngster Holger Rune, beating the 18-year-old 7-6/7-5. Even though Ruud was a bit rusty, to begin with, he did eventually improve as the game went on. Now, the Norwegian will be awaited by Dimitrov in the round of 16 in Monte Carlo.

Grigor Dimitrov v Casper Ruud Head to Head Stats

Dimitrov and Ruud have played each other once before in the semi-finals of San Diego last year on an outdoor hard court, Ruud winning in three sets. The Round of 16 at the Monte Carlo Masters 2022 will be the second time these two will square off.

Grigor Dimitrov vs Casper Ruud prediction

Even though Ruud has never played in Monte Carlo prior to this current tournament, he has shown over the past year that clay holds no fears for him. He will be confident of making the quarter-finals at the very least given that he is one of the best-seeded players in the competition. Our prediction is a win in straight sets for Casper Ruud.
