The Croatian star has been in good form this season. She has made it to three consecutive quarterfinals and this includes a maiden appearance in the Australian Open quarterfinal. In the first round of the Monterrey Open, Vekic came back from a set down to lead Lesia Tsurenko 5-0 in the second set when the Ukrainian retired.

In the round of 16, Vekic made light work of Emma Navarro, winning in straight sets 6-3, 6-2. The former converted 6 out of 13 break points.

Ysaline Bonaventure

The 28-year-old will be playing her second quarterfinal of the season. She faced Despina Papamichail in the first round. The first set was close but Bonaventure bagged it in the tiebreak. She lost the second set but outplayed her opponent in the third to win the match 7-6 (7-5), 4-6, 6-1. The Belgian player committed 14 double faults in this match but it didn’t prove to be costly for her.

In the round of 16, she once again won the first set in the tiebreak before losing the second set. Bonaventure eventually won the match 7-6 (7-2), 1-6, 6-3 against Kamilla Rakhimova. The former brought the number of double faults down to 4 in this match.

Head-to-Head and Prediction

Bonaventure has a slender 2-1 lead in the head-to-head scoreline against Vekic. The Croatian won their most recent encounter 6-2, 4-6, 6-1 in the qualifiers of the Tenerife Ladies Open in 2021.

Prediction: Donna Vekic to win in three sets.
