Monterrey Open 2023: Lin Zhu vs Caroline Dolehide – Preview, Head-to-Head, and Prediction

5th seed Lin Zhu takes on American qualifier Caroline Dolehide in the quarterfinals of the 2023 Monterrey Open on Friday.

The Chinese tennis pro has been in good form this year. She is into her third quarterfinal in 2023. Her campaign began with a gritty win against Anna Bondar in the round of 32. Zhu won the two-set thriller 6-4, 7-6 (7-4). She managed to convert 3 out of 3 break points and had a win percentage of 77 on the first serve.

In the round of 16, Zhu got the better of Canadian veteran Rebecca Marino 7-6 (7-4), 2-6, 6-3. Zhu had to contend with a flurry of aces (11) from Marino. The 29-year-old produced a dogged display in the third set after being outplayed in the second set.

Caroline Dolehide

The 24-year-old has not lost a set in the Monterrey Open so far. Her campaign began with a convincing 6-2, 6-4 win against Laura Pigossi in the first round of qualifying. In the second round, Dolehide went past Marcela Zacarias in two competitive sets 6-4, 7-5. Dolehide outplayed the talented Jule Niemeier in the round of 32. The one-sided affair ended 6-1, 6-0 in favor of the American tennis star who had a win percentage of 81 and converted 6 out of 10 break points without being broken.

In the round of 16, Dolehide produced another fine performance to ease past Anna Karolina Schmiedlova 6-2, 6-4. The former had a win percentage of 80 on the first serve and once again didn’t get broken.

Caroline Dolehide has an unblemished 2-0 head-to-head record against Lin Zhu. Dolehide defeated Zhu in the 2022 Guadalajara Open 4-6, 6-3, 6-4.
