3rd seed Borna Coric squares off against the talented Maxime Cressy in the quarterfinals of the 2023 Montpellier Open on Friday.
Borna Coric
The Croatian star came into the tournament after a disappointing Australian Open campaign. He crashed out in the first round following a one-sided loss against the talented Jiri Lehecka.
After receiving a bye into the round of 16, Coric faced Arthur Rinderknech. Coric won the first set quite easily but the Frenchman made him work hard in the second set. The 26-year-old did well to hold his nerves and not allow the match to drift into the third set. Coric won the match 6-3, 7-5. He smashed 10 aces in the encounter and had a win percentage of 79 on the first serve and 77 on the second serve.
Maxime Cressy
The American youngster had a comparatively better outing in the Australian Open as he made it to the second round with a win against Albert Ramos-Vinolas. In the second round, he was beaten by 9th seed Holger Rune.
In the round of 32, Cressy made light work of Antoine Bellier. Cressy won the match in straight sets 6-3, 6-2 with the help of 11 aces and relentless aggression. In the round of 16, Cressy put on a solid display against 7th seed Emil Ruusuvuori and defeated the Finnish No. 1 in straight sets 6-4, 6-4. In this match, Cressy smashed 15 aces and had a win percentage of 90 on the first serve.
