7th seed Emil Ruusuvuori takes on world No. 73 Mikael Ymer in the round of 32 of the 2023 Montpellier Open on Wednesday.

The Finnish No. 1 started the season by playing in the Maharashtra Open. In the round of 16, Ruusuvuori faced Benjamin Bonzi. The third-seeded Ruusuvuori lost in straight sets to the eventual finalist, Bonzi. The 23-year-old faced Mikael Ymer in the first round of the Adelaide International 2. The match turned out to be an interesting affair but Ymer won in three sets.
Ruusuvuori came back from a set down to defeat Max Purcell in the first round of the Australian Open. In the second round, Ruusuvuori went down to 5th seed Andrey Rublev in four sets, managing to convert only one out of nine break points.

The 24-year-old has had a promising start to the season. He couldn’t impress at the Adelaide International 1, losing to Roman Safiullin in the first round. However, he bounced back in the Adelaide International 2 and made it to the quarterfinals after progressing from the qualifiers. During his campaign, Ymer defeated the likes of Nikoloz Basilashvili, Jordan Thompson, Emil Ruusuvuori, and Mackenzie McDonald. In the quarterfinals, he lost to Soon-woo Kwon.
In the Australian Open, Ymer lost to 31st seed Yoshihito Nishioka in the first round in three sets. Before coming to France, the Swedish youngster played in a Challenger event in Ottignies-Louvain-La-Neuve and finished runner-up
