Top seed Holger Rune faces Swiss star Marc-Andrea Huesler in the round of 16 of the 2023 Montpellier Open on Thursday.
Holger Rune
The Danish sensation began the season by playing in the Adelaide International 1. He entered the tournament as the fifth-seeded player. This was his first assignment since winning the Paris Masters title last year. Rune lost to Yoshihito Nishioka in the round of 32.
The 19-year-old went on to play in the Australian Open. He defeated Filip Krajinovic, Maxime Cressy, and Ugo Humbert in the first three rounds before losing to Andrey Rublev in the fourth round. This was the first time he reached the fourth round in the Australian Open.
Marc-Andrea Huesler
The 26-year-old played the inaugural United Cup at the start of the season. He registered wins against Timofey Skatov and Daniel Michalski. In the Australian Open, Huesler lost to John Millman in the first round after winning two out of the first three sets.
In the round of 32 of the Abu Dhabi Open, Huesler picked up a solid win against Luca Van Asche after surviving a scare in the second set. During the match, Huesler served very well as he fired in 13 aces and had a win percentage of 87 on the first serve.
