Here is everything you need to know about who has the most knockouts in the history of the UFC
Not everyone can become an expert at knocking people out. Even some of the greatest fighters to have ever lived aren’t necessarily knockout artists.
The MMA community has a special place in its hearts for knockout specialists. Let’s take a look at some of the best finishers in the UFC, and also the one who tops the list.
The record for the most knockouts in UFC was recently broken
The record for the most knockouts in the history of the UFC is 13 and it is held by ‘The Black Beast’ Derrick Lewis. Regarded as one of the hardest punchers ever, the 36-year old recently broke the record for the most knockouts in the promotion following his brutal KO win over Chris Daukaus at UFC Fight Night: Lewis vs Daukaus on the 18th of December.
Lewis made his UFC debut at UFC on FOX: Werdum vs Browne in April 2014, and started off with a knockout win over Jack May. His next five wins were knockout wins as well, against – Guto Inocente, Ruan Potts, Viktor Pesta, Damian Grabowski and Gabriel Gonzaga.
Following a narrow split decision win over Roy Nelson, Lewis continued his knockout spree. He knocked out Shamil Abdurakhimov and Travis Browne.
Alexander Volkov was Lewis’ 10th knockout victim. Since then he’s finished Alexey Oleynik, Curtis Blaydes and most recently Daukaus.
Following Daukaus KO, Derrick Lewis went past Vitor Belfort and Matt Brown
Derrick Lewis went past former UFC fighter Vitor Belfort and current welterweight Matt Brown to earn the distinction. Belfort and Brown are currently second in the last with 12 knockout wins.
They are closely followed by one of the greatest mixed martial artists of all time – Anderson Silva, alongside Anthony Johnson and Thiago Santos. The three fighters have knocked out their opponents 11 times.
However, Silva’s record of 11 is much more special just because of a majority of those knockouts coming in title fights. 7 of those 11 knockouts of Silva’s were in title fights.
Derrick Lewis three clear in the heavyweight list
Derrick Lewis, who has 13 knockout wins, is three clear of Cain Velasquez, Junior Dos Santos and Francis Ngannou who are on 10 KO wins.
Lewis will be wary of the fast-approaching Ngannou, who is also the current heavyweight champion.
At number 3 in the heavyweight knockout list are Andrei Arlovski, Alistair Overeem and Stipe Miocic. Arlovski and Miocic are still a part of the UFC, and Miocic, in fact, is the number 2 ranked heavyweight.
