Manchester United’s winning streak of three games was ended by Wolverhampton Wanderers on Saturday as the Red Devils were held to a 1-1 draw by the visitors. Jose Mourinho’s men took the lead in the first half but Joao Moutinho equalized early in the second half to ensure that both the teams got a point apiece.
The Red Devils will be up against West Ham United in the Premier League next weekend but they will be taking on Frank Lampard’s Derby County before that on Wednesday in the third round of the League Cup.
Ander Herrera continues his recovery from an ankle injury and centre-back Marcos Rojo will be unavailable due to a minor knock.
Nemanja Matic will be available for selection after serving his ban following the red card he received against Watford but Marcus Rashford will continue to serve his suspension.
Sergio Romero (GK)
The Argentine goalkeeper has remained an unused substitute in all of United’s games so far in the season but Mourinho should hand him a start ahead of David De Gea, who should be rested for the League Cup tie.
Diogo Dalot (RB)
The new signing had a good game in the Champions League against Young Boys and deserves another chance. Mourinho should rest the ageing Antonio Valencia and give him a start.
Eric Bailly (CB)
The Ivorian has fallen out of favour after some poor performances at the start of the season but Mourinho should hand him a chance to get his act together against Derby County.
Phil Jones (CB)
The English international did not have the best start to the season and was sidelined due to an injury. Now that he is fit, Mourinho should test him out on Wednesday.
Ashley Young (LB)
Mourinho should start with Ashley Young and rest Luke Shaw to keep him fresh for the Premier League game on Saturday.
Andreas Pereira (RCM)
The youngster has shown some promise in the limited game time he has received and should start ahead of Paul Pogba, as United would need him to be at the top of his game when they face West Ham.
Marouane Fellaini (CM)
The Belgian has been really impressive for the past three games and should retain his position in the starting line-up.
Fred (LCM)
The Brazilian had a good outing against Wolves and scored his first goal for the Red Devils. Mourinho should hand him another start to allow him to grow in confidence.
Anthony Martial (LW)
The Frenchman hasn’t started too many games this season but this will be a good opportunity for Mourinho to rest Alexis Sanchez and give Martial a start.
Juan Mata (RW)
The Spaniard came on as a substitute against Young Boys and Wolves but looked sloppy with his passing and finishing. Hence, Mourinho should rest Lingard and start Mata to help him rediscover his mojo.
Romelu Lukaku (ST)
Given that Rashford is suspended, United do not have another specialist No.9 to rotate the squad and rest Romelu Lukaku. Hence, Mourinho must field the Belgian on Wednesday.
