According to a report from the Daily Star, Championship trio Leeds United, West Brom and Middlesbrough are interested in signing Jamal Lowe from League One club Portsmouth.
Portsmouth were in contention to get promoted to the Championship but failure to get past Sunderland in the League One semi-final playoffs could see Jamal Lowe leave Fratton Park this summer. And given his quality and the season he has had, the winger is too good for League One and it won’t be a surprise if he decides to leave Portsmouth.
Pompey’s failure to achieve promotion should be music to all the suitors of Lowe. However, Leeds must beat their Championship rivals to the signature of the exciting 24-year-old.
Leeds United had to battle Derby over two legs after failing to keep up in the race for automatic promotion from the Premier League. They looked favourites to progress to Wembley after winning the first leg and taking an early lead at Elland Road. But Frank Lampard’s side fought back to dump them out and set up a final showdown with Aston Villa next week.
Marcelo Bielsa’s side fell short and will play in the Championship once again. However, failure to achieve promotion has given Bielsa an idea about his squad’s requirements and the areas he needs to address over the summer.
There’s plenty of room for development at Elland Road and as things stand, the veteran Argentinean appears to be the right manager to prepare the Whites for another assault on the Championship title.
The Yorkshire giants need an injection pace, power and energy to their attack, which looked toothless and devoid of gusto during the business end of the campaign. That could be down to burn out due to Bielsa’s punishing training ground methods, but whatever is the case, there’s a clear need for attacking reinforcements over the summer.
Jamal Lowe could be that player for Leeds. The 24-year-old has been Portsmouth’s top scorer this past season as Kenny Jackett’s side lifted the Checkatrade Trophy. But his aim was a return to Championship and that wasn’t fulfilled due to Portsmouth’s failure to beat Sunderland in their League One play-off semi-final.
However, Leeds could offer Lowe a return to the Championship. In return, the 24-year-old will offer plenty of pace, power and flair to the Whites’ attack. He is also a composed finisher in front of goal, meaning the former Barnet man will potentially bring competition for Kemar Roofe and Patrick Bamford.

Kemar Roofe has done well front but has suffered a lot of injuries, while Patrick Bamford has struggled since joining Bielsa’s team. Thus, the signing of Lowe would make some sense for Leeds.
Lowe has had a top season in League One but it remains to be seen how well he does in the Championship, if Leeds sign him.
