The 2023 NBA All-Star game will take place in Salt Lake City but there is a change in the voting format
The festive period relates to one big event in the NBA, the NBA All-Star game. This season’s event will take place on 19 February, 2023 and is part of the big All-Star weekend which features a celebrity game, the NBA Rising stars game and the All-Star Saturday Night.
Saturday night features the skills challenge, the 3-point contest and the much-anticipated slam dunk contest.
However, 19 February sees the 72nd All-Star game and there is a bit of a change in the voting system this time.
Usually, fans would vote for the players they want in the All-Star game via Twitter. However, this time they will have to vote via the NBA app or website. This will limit fans to one vote per day although there is one day when the vote counts triple.
This is being done to avoid special campaigns being run to ensure one player makes it to the All-Star team.
Who makes the All-Star team?
Fans, players and some media personnel all play a role in who gets to play in the NBA All-Star game.
The leading vote-getters for each conference are named as team captains. They can then choose from a pool of players to make their team, irrespective of which conference they are in.
The two captains also pick their teammates via a televised event while the head coach with the best record in each conference is picked to manage their respective conference in the All-Star game.
This year’s voting for the All-Star game starts on 20 Dec 2022 and will continue till 21 Jan 2023. It will be interesting to see who makes the top two players in the voting process this time around.
Luka Doncic, Kevin Durant, Ja Morant, Joel Embiid and Giannis are all having great seasons on their own.
