Are Draymond Green and LeBron James friends? Learn all there is to know about the Los Angeles Lakers star and former Golden State Warriors star being friends.
Draymond Green’s friendship with LeBron James has been well-documented. Enough so that Green has had to address their tight bond whenever the Lakers and Warriors have met over the past five years.
Usually, Green plays it off as no big deal; in 2021, he called it “fun” to play against James. But in an interview published hours before Game 2 of this year’s Western Conference semi-finals, with Golden State trailing 1-0 after a Game 1 upset at the hands of the Lakers, he took a decidedly more profane stance.
“None of that s—t matters in the playoffs,” Green said. “Personal relationships are personal relationships. But you’re part of a team and all fighting for one common goal. If you’re in the way of that, you’re in the way of that. All that goes to the side.” James has been “in the way of that” quite a bit through the years, and Green has had no problem running through him.
Green leads the all-time series between the two 26-17, including a 16-7 edge in the playoffs. He’s averaged 10.8 points, 8.4 rebounds and 6 assists in those matchups — all above his career averages. Green’s feelings for LeBron has been very public over the years, to the point where he asked the Warriors for a day off on his friend’s special day.
On the night where LeBron was set to become the NBA’s all-time leading scorer, Green asked for a day off to see his friend achieve the feat of a lifetime.
However, with the Warriors fighting for their lives in the playoffs, coach Steve Kerr decided it was best for Green to be with the team the night before a game in Portland, Oregon, instead of going to Los Angeles to see James become the NBA’s all-time leading scorer on Feb. 7. Green understood and instead saluted his buddy on Twitter, calling James the greatest of all time with seven goat emojis.
With Green being a free agent right now, it will not be a surprise to see him join James at the Lakers at the start of next season.
