Did LaMarcus Aldridge have a heart condition?

The Dallas Mavericks are one of the stronger teams in the NBA right now, owing to the fact that they have one of the best players in the league in Luka Doncic, as well as new recruit and 8-time All-Star Kyrie Irving. While Doncic is a monster on the court, it was often said that he lacked a partner in crime for Dallas to unlock the next level, and Irving has seemed to provide just that.

As it turns out, it feels like the Mavericks have found the perfect partner for Doncic in the form of Irving. However, Mavs boss Mark Cuban is not quite done with strengthening the roster as much as he can, as it was revealed that a 7-time All-Star is set to train with the Mavericks. ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski reported that they will bring in 7-time NBA All-Star LaMarcus Aldridge for a workout (on Tuesday).

Wojnarowski tweeted: “Free agent F/C LaMarcus Aldridge is working out for the Dallas Mavericks on Tuesday, sources tell ESPN. Aldridge, a seven-time All-Star, averaged 12.9 points in 47 games for Brooklyn a season ago.” However, as it turns out, Aldridge retired from the NBA not long ago courtesy of a heart condition.

What heart condition did LaMarcus Aldridge have?

Aldridge had an irregular heartbeat, owing to which he retired from the NBA in 2021.

Aldridge last played for the Brooklyn Nets

Having played college basketball with the Texas Longhorns, Aldridge was selected second overall in the 2006 NBA draft. After spending nine seasons with the Portland Trail Blazers, he signed with the San Antonio Spurs in 2015. In March 2021, he signed with the Brooklyn Nets after the Spurs bought out his contract. He retired after two weeks due to an irregular heartbeat, but returned to the Nets the following season after receiving medical clearance.

The addition of Aldridge’s veteran experience into the ranks of the Mavericks roster is set to help them as they aim to go deep into the business end of the league this season.
