Kyrie Irving signed a Nike contract: Is he still under a contract with Nike?
Kyrie Irving and Nike are no longer affiliated, the brand said on Monday. Following Irving’s sharing of antisemitic material on social media and his initial refusal to declare his opposition to antisemitism, the Brooklyn Nets player, Kyrie Irving is no longer under the Nike contract, with Nike being a global footwear company.
A Nike representative was unable to provide any further information regarding the action right now. The choice was mutual, Irving’s representative Shetellia Riley Irving told CNBC. “We wish Nike nothing but the best in their future endeavors.”
According to Sportico, Irving’s shoe contract with Nike was one of the NBA’s most lucrative ones, bringing in roughly $11 million in revenue for him annually. In 2014, Irving agreed to a contract with Nike to create his own pair of shoes, and this month, the Kyrie 8s were set for sale.
Prior to Monday, there were indications that Nike and Irving’s relationship was deteriorating. One day after the parting was announced, Nike drastically reduced the cost of Irving’s iconic sneakers, providing discounts of up to 50% on select styles.
Kyrie Irving expressed his relief at being released from the Nike contract, which was set to expire in October 2023, in a tweet he wrote on Monday. When Irving tweeted a link to the documentary “Hebrews to Negroes: Wake Up Black America,” the dispute got started on October 27. The 2018 movie “uncovers the actual identity of the Children of Israel,” according to the Amazon summary.
However, the movie makes reference to Jewish conspiracy theories, such as the untrue assertion that Jews controlled the slave trade. Following the post, the club penalized Irving for five games. The Nets released Irving from the team for the second consecutive season. When Irving declined to receive the COVID-19 vaccination last season, the Nets suspended him and disallowed him from participating in home games.
