Steve Kerr was disappointed by veteran Draymond Green after he lost his composure and punched Jordan Poole during practice.
Since his fight with teammate Jordan Poole on the previous Wednesday, during which he attacked the young guard, Draymond Green has been absent from the Golden State Warriors. The incident occurred when Green was punching Poole. Green has been given a fine for his acts, but according to sources, he won’t be punished for what he did to Poole.
Green had apologized to Jordan Poole and the team before Thursday’s practice, and he had then left the building and gone home shortly afterward. During another one of the press conferences, Draymond Green expressed his regret for his behavior and extended an apology to both the team and Poole. He stated that he was pretty saddened by his actions.
After some time had passed, TMZ decided to publish a video of the confrontation online. After watching the footage, Green and the Warriors came to the conclusion that he should spend more time away from the team. On Saturday, he issued an apology to the general public and then stated that he would be leaving the squad indefinitely.
Talking about Draymond Green, Warriors head coach Steve Kerr said, “He broke our trust, but I am giving him the benefit of the doubt because I think he’s earned that. There is no way around it: [Our] culture has been damaged by this incident, You have to work to repair that.”
He added, “This is the biggest crisis that we’ve had since I’ve been the coach here. It’s really serious stuff. We’re not perfect. … But we’re going to lean on the experience that we have together and trust that this is the best decision for our team. We have a lot of work to do. All of us.”
Draymond Green is expected to play the final preseason game for the Warriors and will be ready to suit up on ring night against the Los Angeles Lakers when the new season kicks off.
