Skip Bayless explained how Stephen Curry’s meltdown helped LeBron James and the Cleveland Cavaliers to win the title in 2016.
The 2016 NBA Finals will be remembered forever. The way the Cleveland Cavaliers came back from a 3-1 deficit against the Golden State Warriors was quite remarkable.
LeBron James went on an insane run with Kyrie Irving, and together they created history. Stephen Curry and the Warriors ended up on the losing side of a historic NBA Finals, and that will itch them forever.
After that loss, the Golden State Warriors got Kevin Durant in free agency and nothing was the same after. The Warriors became one of the best teams of all time and won two straight NBA Championships.
Recently Skip Bayless talked about how Stephen Curry melted and it is why LeBron James was able to win another championship. He compared Curry’s 2016 performance with LeBron’s 2011 performance.
Skip Bayless said, “We had seen Steph meltdown almost as bad as LeBron melted down in the 2011 finals against Dallas it in games four, five, I’m sorry five, six, and seven Steph Curry disappeared.”
Bayless added, “He came up even smaller than he is, you can just check the facts go look at the stats of those three games it was all about what Steph didn’t do and it opened the door for LeBron and Kyrie and company to run right through it.
Skip Bayless firmly believes that Stephen Curry wouldn’t have won another title against LeBron James if not for Kevin Durant. He talked about how Curry’s failure gave an advantage to LeBron and Kyrie to build momentum and win the series.
Skip Bayless said, “They [LeBron & Kyrie] even took over game seven thanks to Steph in the fourth quarter going one of six and one of five from three and he was he was horrendous he was the reason that LeBron got that ring he gifted a ring to LeBron James.”
He added, “He [Curry] was so bad that they knew they were going to have to face LeBron coming through the east the cakewalk that it was in those days maybe a couple of more times and that’s what happened but if you go get that nuclear weapon the best player on the planet all of a sudden the playing field tilts back in your favor there’s no way Steph was going to beat LeBron in 2017 and 2018 without Kevin Durant…”
It is a valid argument that the Warriors might not have won another title if they didn’t have Durant. Draymond Green himself admitted that they would not be able to defeat the Cavs without KD.
Warriors fans have been downplaying the importance of Durant since he left the team and that had been a wrong assumption. Both of them needed each other and it is why they became one of the best teams of all time during that period of dominance.
