Russell Westbrook has played while coming off the bench for the Lakers, and Anthony Davis is very proud of him.
Last night, the Los Angeles Lakers finally got their first win of the season with a 121-110 victory over the Denver Nuggets. It was their first game of the season. Additionally, it was the first victory of Darvin Ham’s career in the NBA as a head coach for a team.
The Los Angeles Lakers played a complete game, in which they not only defended well as they typically do but also showed improvement while shooting the ball in front of their supporters at Staples Center. Anthony Davis finished with 23 points to lead the Los Angeles Lakers to victory. LeBron James also contributed with 26 points in the end. Coming off the bench, Russell Westbrook had a great game as well, contributing 18 points, 8 rebounds, and 8 assists.
Russell Westbrook has shown that he is thriving in his new role with the Lakers, which requires him to come off the bench. So far, he has performed admirably in this role. Anthony Davis is pretty happy with Westbrook’s performance in his new role.
Talking about it, Anthony Davis said, “To be a player of his caliber and asked to come off the bench, that’s truly a guy doing whatever the team asks to get a win,” He added, “Sacrifice his starting position for the betterment of the team. He’s flourished in that role. That’s all we can ask for. I told him, ‘Just keep what you’re doing, man. Everything you’re doing is unbelievable.’ In the last two games, he just kind of been doing his thing. Proud of him.”
If Westbrook continues to play like that then this Lakers team can be very good this season. They will hope to continue playing like it going further into the season.
