Kevin Durant was asked about his stance on the whole Kyrie Irving situation after the point guard was suspended for five games.
After Kyrie Irving did not formally apologize during a news conference earlier in the day for the hurt that his posts caused late the previous week, the Brooklyn Nets decided to suspend him for at least five games on Thursday. After some time had passed, on Thursday night, Irving posted an apology on his Instagram account.
Kevin Durant called the fallout from Kyrie Irving’s social media posts that centered on an antisemitic book and movie a “unfortunate situation” that hopes to move forward with the team. Irving’s posts were centered on a book and movie that were antisemitic.
The general manager of the Nets, Sean Marks, stated that while Kyrie Irving’s apology on Instagram was a good first step, he still needs to take additional steps before he will be able to play for the Nets again. These additional steps include meeting with Jewish community leaders in Brooklyn and participating in “counseling designated by the team.”
Talking about the issue, Kevin Durant said, “I ain’t here to judge nobody or talk down on nobody for how they feel, their view or anything, just didn’t like anything that went on. I feel like it was all unnecessary. I felt like we could have just kept playing basketball and kept quiet as an organization. I just don’t like none of it.”
