Dejounte Murray talked about his pairing with Trae Young as he looks to get ready to make an impact on his new team.
Dejounte Murray was been traded to the Atlanta Hawks from the San Antonio Spurs a few weeks ago. The Hawks sent Danilo Gallinari and a 2023 first-round pick via the Charlotte Hornets, and their own 2025 and 2027 first-round picks to the San Antonio Spurs in the deal for Dejounte Murray.
Murray has been very excited about playing with the Hawks. He claimed that he and Trae Young will be a good fit alongside each other. As a result, they’ll be an impactful duo, and have high aspirations for them.
Talking about his pairing with Trae, Murray said, “Number one, you can’t double. That’s big in this league and obviously, Trae has been to the playoffs, had some success in the playoffs.“
He added, “When you have two guys you have to pick your poison. And you know for me, it’s just I don’t fall into none of that. I’m a hooper, Trae a hooper. The ultimate goal is to win basketball games and championships.”
The Atlanta Hawks have made a significant acquisition with this deal. Trae Young will have reduced stress and load, which will enable him to further develop his game. In addition, the Hawks didn’t part with any star players to get Murray, and they were finally able to shed a significant deal from their books.
Murray will be one of their best defenders and has the ability to make three-pointers and catch lobs from Trae Young. Additionally, he gives the Hawks team a massive body that it was lacking.
The fact that the Hawks chose not to trade John Collins was by far their biggest victory. A prior rumor suggested that the Hawks may include Collins in the exchange for Dejounte Murray.
