Damian Lillard recently spoke about his future with the Portland Trail Blazers ahead of the new NBA season.
There have been continuous talks about the future of Damian Lillard with the Portland Trail Blazers over the years. Last season when the Blazers traded away CJ McCollum and Norman Powell there was a sense around the league that the Blazers might look to trade Lillard as well.
However, that wasn’t the case as the Blazers reconstructed their roster pretty quickly around Damian Lillard, and the star player doesn’t want to leave them either. The emergence of Anfernee Simons helped the Blazers to do it.
Recently, Lillard spoke about his future with the Blazers. He has made it clear that he doesn’t see him leaving the Blazers any time in the future despite what others think about his decision.
Lillard said, “I’ve had my share of people saying ‘Man, you got to get out of there! You’ve got to do this, you’ve got do to that.’ But I’m the type of person that I’m never going to be marching to the beat of nobody else’s drum. I’m gonna always do what I feel like is in my best interest and that I really feel in my heart.”
He added, “I’ve said this on many different occasions, they call it ‘He’s being loyal!’ and ‘Loyalty this, loyalty that’ and I’m like, I’m naturally a loyal person but I do have a level of loyalty to the organization, but this loyalty that they’re talking about is ultimately to who I am as a person. I’m being loyal to who I am and not getting beside myself because I’m somebody that, I believe what I believe.”
Damian Lillard believes he can win a championship with the Blazers
Damian Lillard still believes that the Portland Trail Blazers can win a championship. Due to it, he doesn’t want to leave the franchise, and it would mean a lot to him if he achieves his goal.
Lillard added, “I think I can get it done. Now, everybody else might say, ‘There’s no way the Blazers will ever win. They need to do this, they need to do that.’ But that’s just not how I feel about the situation. I feel like we’ll have a chance to win, I feel like that moment is going to come, I feel like that opportunity is going to come. And that’s that.”
Last season, Lillard didn’t play much and had surgery. Now he will be back healthy and will be determined to lead his team to a much better season this time around.
The Portland Trail Blazers have a talented roster for this season. Josh Hart and Jeremi Grant will provide the defense to their team, while the back-court of Simons and Lillard will dominate the offensive end for the Blazers.
However, the Western Conference is stacked. Even making it to the playoffs will be a tough task for Lillard’s team, but the star point guard is confident about himself and his team. The start of the season is not far away, and it will be interesting to see how the Blazers perform this season with a healthy Damian Lillard and some new faces who can make a huge impact.
