Stephen Silas coached the Houston Rockets to a big win over the Phoenix Suns, days after the death of his father, Paul Silas.
Former NBA player and coach Paul Silas passed away on Sunday, and the whole NBA world mourned on his demise. His son Stephen Silas, who is the head coach of the Houston Rockets, led his team to an impressive 111-97 win over the Phoenix Suns.
This was a great win for a young Rockets team on an emotional day for their head coach, and they played like champions against one of the best teams in the league.
After the game, Stephen Silas said, “I’m very proud to be my dad’s son, I’m very proud that people see him in me. And I want that to continue. Whenever it is my time comes, I want people to say the same things that they said about him over the last couple of days about [me]. And hopefully, they’ll do that.”
Speaking about his return to coach the Rockets, Silas said, “It was definitely great to be back, I love these guys. I love this team. I kind of didn’t want the game to end because now it’s like real life starts up again.” He added, “I don’t know if it makes it easier or not, but my dad was a coach and he would tell me to coach, Get your butt out there and coach. So that’s what I did.”
Phoenix Suns head coach Monty Williams also showed support to Stephen Silas upon the passing of his father and gave him a long hug after the game. Monty Williams himself has endured many personal tragedies in life and knows the feel of what Silas is experiencing presently.
