The Memphis Grizzlies tied their main man Ja Morant with a huge 5-year extension which will be worth up to $231 million.
Ja Morant, an All-NBA guard for the Memphis Grizzlies, has signed to a designated rookie extension that will likely be worth $231 million over five years.
Morant, who was named to the NBA’s Second Team, has a guaranteed $193 million contract that will increase to $231 million if he once again makes one of the league’s three All-NBA teams.
Morant, who is 22 years old, has proven to be a legitimate superstar after averaging 27.4 points, 5.7 rebounds, and 6.7 assists this past season. This past season, the Grizzlies reached the second round of the Western Conference playoffs and tied a team-high with 56 victories. Morant was named the NBA’s Most Improved Player and was selected to his first All-Star team.
Adrian Wojnarowski of the ESPN reported: Memphis Grizzlies star Ja Morant has agreed on a five-year, $193M designated rookie maximum extension that could become worth $231M.
Ja Morant’s agent spoke to ESPN and talked about the extension offered by the Grizzlies. He said, “Over the past three seasons, Ja has truly emerged as an NBA superstar and must-see TV.”
Ja’s agent Jim Tanner added, “From Rookie of the Year, to NBA All-Star starter, to All-NBA Second Team and Most Improved Player, we are incredibly proud of him for his dedication to improving his game and developing into a team leader. The Grizzlies are a perfect fit for Ja. The organization and the city have embraced him.”
The Memphis Grizzlies made a huge leap last season, and so did Ja Morant. Hopefully, their bond continues to stay stronger, as this team is capable of winning a championship.
