The Boston Celtics picked him 10th overall and handed him 33 starts in his rookie season where he averaged 6.2 points per game. But it was after getting traded to Phoenix that Johnson hit his best stride. He shot 39.3% from the three-point line and became a clutch player for the franchise, averaging over 14 points per game. He led the Suns to a 62-20 season in 2006 and lost to Spurs in the Western Conference finals.
Johnson wanted a bigger role and signed a mega deal with Atalanta in the offseason. He signed for $70 million and enjoyed a prolific period, scoring a career-high of 42 points in 2006, being named into the 2008 All-Star team among others. He became one of the highest-paid athletes in the NBA in 2010 through a star studded free-agency.
