Kevin Durant claims he has no involvement in the free agency saga of Kyrie Irving

Published by

Kevin Durant believes he should not be involved at all in Kyrie Irving’s free agency decision, as it is his own livelihood’s matter.

During the past few days, Kyrie Irving’s negotiations with the Brooklyn Nets suffered a setback. Next season, Irving is likely to play for a different team. It is already clear that many teams are preparing themselves for the possibility of Kyrie Irving becoming available.

This puts focus on Kevin Durant, If Irving leaves Brooklyn what will the slim reaper do? It’s very probable that KD will also demand a trade from the team if Kyrie Irving decides to join another team.

Recently Durant spoke on the whole Kyrie Irving saga on his podcast. He believes that he should not be involved at all in Kyrie Irving’s free agency decision, as it is his own livelihood matter.

KD said, “It’s no involvement at all. I can’t be involved with it. This is this man’s livelihood. This is much bigger than me. Being a free agent, it’s one of the most important times in your career. That can’t be swayed by anybody else. I just do me and wait for the time. There’s nothing that can happen right now.”

“I just let things play out and see what happens” – Kevin Durant

KD said, “I don’t think he can even make a decision on opting out until the 29th, I think. I just let things play out and see what happens, but keep the regular contact up with Ky and see what happens. It’s something that’s so much out of my control that I don’t want to be a part of it. We’ll see what happens though.”

He added, “That’s where I’m at with it. Basketball is obviously the most important thing but I try not to let that get in the way of somebody else’s personal decision. Like I said, whatever happens, the friendship will still be there.”

What will KD do if Kyrie Irving leaves Brooklyn?

There is a very high possibility that Kevin Durant might leave the Brooklyn Nets if Irving decides to go somewhere else. Anything can happen in the next few days, and it can shake up the entire NBA.

According to Shams Charania of The Athletic: Kevin Durant is monitoring the Brooklyn Nets’ situation and considering options with his future. This now opens the path for Kyrie Irving to proceed on finding a new home via opt-in and trade.

If KD decides to leave the Brooklyn Nets, there won’t be many teams who wouldn’t want him on their roster. It is being sensed around the league that a trade package for Kevin Durant will be the biggest that the league has ever seen.

Teams like the Philadelphia 76ers and Miami Heat could jump quickly to get KD. However, all of it will depend on the situation of Kyrie Irving. With the Los Angeles Lakers looking to pursue him, a move away from Brooklyn is looking very possible for the Nets’ number 11.

Things can take a drastic turn in the next few days. If the Lakers end up getting Kyrie Irving, then it will put them among the favorites to win the championship again. On the other hand, the situation of Kevin Durant can take any turn considering what the Nets do in the coming days.
