Kyrie Irving, the point guard of the Brooklyn Nets wants to sign the max deal in the summer to stay with the team for a long haul.
The Brooklyn Nets were swept in the 1st round of the NBA playoffs by the Boston Celtics. Nobody expected them to go out in this fashion, as they were the pre-season favorites to win the championship.
Many things have contributed to a poor season for the Nets this year. Injuries to their star players, the unavailability of Kyrie Irving, and the departure of James Harden to the 76ers were among the factors that had a negative impact on their season.
However, they want to put things behind them and are hoping for a fresh start next season. Furthermore, Ben Simmons and Joe Harris will also be available to play for the team next season. They will help KD and Kyrie massively next season.
Kyrie Irving can become a free agent in the offseason if he opts out of his player option. However, he has already said that he wants to stay in Brooklyn and help KD to bring the first championship in the franchise’s history.
Kai said, “In terms of my extension, man, I don’t really plan on going anywhere,”
Kyrie Irving wants to lead the franchise alongside the leadership group
Kyrie Irving wants to help the franchise by being among the leadership group. Notably, he admitted that his absence throughout the season was one of the reasons, why the Nets were swept in the 1st round.
Irving said, “When I say I’m here with Kev, I think that it really entails us managing this franchise together alongside Joe (Tsai, the owner) and Sean (Marks, the GM) and just our group of family members that we have in our organization,”
He added, “So it’s not just about me and Kev, I don’t want to make it just about that. We are cornerstones here, but we have Ben, we have a few other guys under contract.”
Kai wants to run it back with the Nets next season. He believes the team is good enough to win the championship. However, he said the team will look to make some moves in the offseason, which could make them an even better team.
