Three time NBA champion Sam Cassell has claimed Stephen Curry is just behind Magic Johnson as the “point God.”

Stephen Curry is widely regarded as one of the best players in the game right now, while some would include his name in the conversation for the greatest players of all time. Curry’s claim to be one of the greatest ever–other than his career accolades which include four Championship titles, two MVPs and a Finals MVP – is his record-breaking ability on the basketball court.

It was only last year that Curry broke the all-time three-pointed record as he overtook Ray Allen on his way to the Championship. And according to three-time champion Sam Cassell, Curry is now on his way to overtaking yet another legend in Los Angeles Lakers great Magic Johnson.

The current assistant coach for the Philadelphia 76ers had quite an impressive playing career of his own where he won the Championship thrice – two with the Houston Rockets and one with the Boston Celtics – and he has championed quite a bold claim.

What did Sam Cassell claim about Stephen Curry?

The former point guard spoke about one of the best in the world in his position at the moment, and how he feels Curry is only second to Magic Johnson now.

Cassell claimed Curry is now the second greatest point guard of all time, and is only behind Magic Johnson as the greatest of all time in his position. Cassell said: “Steph Curry this year man… he’s second now. That’s my opinion. He’s second behind Magic as the Point God. He’s that damn good.

Magic Johnson had quite the legendary career of his own, as the Los Angeles Lakers legend was a five-time winner of the Championship, a three-time MVP winner, and a three-time Finals MVP winner – a career courtesy of which he is often regarded as the greatest point guard of all time.

Curry might have a claim to the throne if he indeed wins his fifth Championship this season.
